Elizabeth Fernandez DVM

Dr. Elizabeth Fernandez’s journey into veterinary medicine began with a deep-seated passion for animals that started in childhood. She earned her Bachelor of Biology degree from Florida International University and later obtained her DVM from the University of Florida (Go Gators!). Her career goals were solidified in 2012 during a career camp at SeaWorld, where she fell in love with wildlife conservation and veterinary medicine. “The experience at SeaWorld really opened my eyes to the impact I could make in veterinary medicine,” she recalls.

Since joining Veterinary Healthcare Associates (VHA), Elizabeth has found immense fulfillment in being part of a well-rounded team that makes the hospital feel like home. “I love that I am surrounded by a team that makes this hospital feel like home, and I’m looking forward to what is to come,” she says. Elizabeth was drawn to VHA by the diversity of specialties available, believing that teamwork and a wide range of expertise help veterinary medicine grow as a whole, giving patients the best access to resources and treatment all in one place.

Elizabeth finds joy in the relationships she builds in general practice, working closely with pet owners to educate them and create the best care plans for their pets. One of her favorite aspects of veterinary medicine is the client-patient relationship, where collaboration and education are key.

At home, Elizabeth shares her life with two dogs: Murphy, a Bernese Mountain Dog, and Marvin, an English Setter rescue. Outside of work, her passion for dance keeps her balanced and refreshed. “My favorite hobby outside of work is attending dance classes, especially tap dancing,” she shares. Engaging in activities outside of veterinary medicine helps Elizabeth return to work each day, ready to give her best to her patients.

Balancing the emotional demands of veterinary medicine is important to Elizabeth, and she appreciates VHA’s commitment to supporting this balance. “Having a good work-life balance is important to me, and I make sure that each day I do what I know will set me up for success for the following day,” she explains. She values the resources VHA offers, like the Dog Dayz Café, which provides nutritious meals, and other initiatives that keep the team fit and healthy.
