Emergency Vets in Winter Haven: Emergency Center Enterance

Rossana Pérez-Freytes DVM, DABVP, Medical Director

After her family dog passed away when she was in 6th grade, Dr. Pérez-Freytes decided to spend the rest of her life in pursuit of honoring his memory. She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Master of Public Health degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2010. While pursuing her MPH degree, she acquired further training in epidemiology and risk analysis at Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine. She also completed a rotating small animal internship at the Veterinary Medical Center-University of Tennessee (Knoxville). Additionally, in November 2019, she completed her specialty board certification (ABVP).

Dr. Pérez-Freytes also had the opportunity to be an emerging infectious disease research fellow in 2007 at the National Center for Preparedness, Detection, and Control of Infectious Disease (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia. She went on to win the Edith Hambie Excellence in Public Health Award for her research on the “Experimental Approach to the Therapeutic Treatment of Rabies.” Dr. Pérez-Freytes has contributed to various publications and co-authored articles about veterinary treatments and pathologies.

Dr. Pérez-Freytes considers herself and her fellow team members blessed to be in the veterinary profession. Her passion lies in educating pet owners and empowering them to make the best choices for their pets. For Dr. Pérez-Freytes, it is a gift to be a part of their story.

Outside of work, Dr. Pérez-Freytes enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She loves being immersed in nature, along with traveling, cooking, salsa dancing, hiking, paddle boarding, and gardening. She is always looking for her next adventure.
