Joanna Koilpillai DVM, Intern
Dr. Koilpillai attended Madras Veterinary College and Tamil Nadu University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in Chennai, India. She graduated with her DVM in 2019. Additionally, she completed a theriogenology summer externship at CVM, North Carolina State University in May 2017 as well as a surgical training in animal birth control through the World Veterinary Service in 2019. Her interest in being a veterinarian began when she was very young as her grandfather is a veterinarian and served as the head of the department of surgery and radiology at Madras Veterinary College. The stories he told her about various cases he handled further kindled her interest to work with animals. Dr. Koilpillai is especially proud to graduate from the same vet school as her grandfather! She got her first dog when she was in middle school and that helped her realize her passion to be a veterinarian.
At home, Dr. Koilpillai has two dogs named Buddy, a Labrador mix, and Benjy, a Combai (Indian hound). In her spare time, she enjoys reading, trying new cuisines, and spending time with her family. One thing she absolutely loves is Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.
