Emergency Vets in Winter Haven: Emergency Center Enterance

Amanda Cathey DVM

Dr. Cathey earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Louisiana State University in 2016. She also completed a small animal medicine and surgery rotating internship with BluePearl Veterinary Partners. Dr. Cathey’s journey to becoming a veterinarian was not a direct one—after high school, she wasn’t exactly sure what she wanted to do for a career. She eventually went to cosmetology school, becoming an esthetician and makeup artist. First, she worked with MAC cosmetics, then opened up her own business in New Orleans. Around this time, Dr. Cathey started volunteering with animals and found herself wondering how she could do more to help. After researching veterinary school, her mind was made up—she wanted to become a veterinarian. And the rest, as they say, is history.

For Dr. Cathey, the most rewarding part about being a veterinarian is seeing the relief on an owner’s face when they realize their pet is going to pull through a traumatic event. She also takes pride in helping families through difficult losses.

Dr. Cathey and her significant other, Cameron, share their home with five pets: Max, a Border Collie mix; Bailey, a Boxer mix; Moose, a domestic medium-haired cat; Marley, a domestic shorthair; and Jack, also a domestic shorthair. Outside of work, Dr. Cathey loves being outside, on the water, or exercising.
